In, on y at en lugares

Di dónde está algo con in, on y at sin traducir «en» siempre igual.

La regla

In: dentro de algo o de una zona (in the kitchen, in Madrid). On: sobre una superficie (on the table, on the wall). At: un punto concreto o un sitio donde se hace algo (at the bus stop, at work). Expresiones fijas: at home, at work, on the first floor.

Ejemplos

The keys are on the kitchen table.Las llaves están en la mesa de la cocina.Superficie: on the table.
Let’s meet at the main entrance.Quedamos en la entrada principal.Punto de encuentro concreto: at.
My parents live in a small village.Mis padres viven en un pueblo pequeño.Ciudades, pueblos y países: in.

Error típico

✗ The keys are in the table.

✓ The keys are on the table.

Las llaves están sobre la superficie de la mesa: on. In the table sería «dentro de la mesa».

💡 «En» no siempre es in: on the table, at the bus stop, at home.
