Attend y assist

Evita el falso amigo assist cuando quieres decir «asistir a».

La regla

Attend significa asistir a algo (a meeting, a class, a wedding) y va sin preposición: attend the meeting. Assist significa ayudar, en un tono formal: assist a customer. Para «estar presente», nunca uses assist. Ojo: attend to significa «ocuparse de». En la conversación, go to es aún más habitual que attend.

Assist significa ayudar; para «asistir a» una reunión se usa attend.
