Repair, fix y solve

Arregla objetos y resuelve problemas con el verbo adecuado.

La regla

Repair es reparar algo roto o dañado: a phone, a car, a roof. Fix es más general e informal: vale para objetos y para problemas o fallos (fix the printer, fix a bug). Solve es resolver un problema, un misterio o un acertijo; nunca se usa con objetos.

Ejemplos

The technician repaired my phone in an hour.El técnico me reparó el móvil en una hora.Repair: un objeto roto vuelve a funcionar.
We finally solved the problem.Por fin resolvimos el problema.Solve: problemas, misterios y acertijos.
Can you fix the printer? It’s jammed again.¿Puedes arreglar la impresora? Se ha vuelto a atascar.Fix: arreglar, en tono informal; vale casi para todo.

Error típico

✗ We repaired the problem with the website.

✓ We solved the problem with the website.

Un problema se resuelve con solve (o fix); repair se usa con objetos rotos.

💡 Objetos rotos: repair o fix. Problemas: solve o fix. Nunca solve a phone.
